Many posts here have been sourced directly from industry professionals that we have personal relationships with. Any informational used must be sourced back to us.
Little surprised at some of the above comments. While I can appreciate the aesthetic, I don’t really subscribe to the CON silhouette but could see myself wearing this.
this is a perfect direction for Kornerd and one they should have stuck with long ago. having veered off the path of grubby, stoner chic, and made a brief and ill-conceived incursion into the realms of black drapery (even seeing fit to mimic brands such as CON in such a shabby manner as to insult all concerned, as well as the intelligence of the intended customer) the brand’s return to the tried and tested Insight/Ksubi model of anti-aspirational, dishevelled, pseudo-homeless/mindless bong scum chic is much more logical and organic.
the boom in this style at present (along with the dreary, preppy, 1950s americana academia look, represented by APC and low-rent equivalents like Vanishing Elephant) should be incentive enough for unimaginative ‘designers’ out their to put down their bongs and take note.
the success of this style at present has much to do with the ease with which it can be effected: it is truly democratic in the sense that it is accessible to the common man. It requires little in the way of grooming or particular panache and outfits can be cobbled together from whatever unwashed rags are scattered about the nicotine infused hovel in which the individual finds himself.
insight/ksubi should take this offering as an affirmation of their efforts to date. they now have a low-rent remora fish to call their own.
zyzz why do you care so much? what are you even saying – that preppy americana is dreary, that Kornerd and Vanishing Elephant are imitators, that stoner chic is for the common man (and obviously beneath someone such as yourself), that the Insight/Ksubi clan are anti-inspirational or mindless bong smokers – do you get how cynical, stuck up and ridiculous you sound?
Its all too easy to try to cut down those who put themselfes out there.. Why don’t you own up to your comments by putting your name up for all to see? That the only label or look you mentioned and haven’t bagged is black drapery/CON begs the question; are you perchance Gareth Moody?
fibrosis, thanks for your insightful riposte; the manner in which you have so cogently rephrased my statements as questions is truly edifying. perhaps next time you might like to ensure when that facilely regurgitating my comments you ensure your spelling and grammar are sound (anti-inspirational/themselfes).
as for supporting or critiquing labels, i didn’t realise that there were only 4 fashion brands in existence (Kornerd, VE, Ksubi/Insight and CON)? for the record FT has routinely represented collections from dozens of Australian and NZ based labels as well as some internationals, many of which i personally would regard highly (Dion Lee, Josh Goot, SFTM, Andrew McDonald, Silent, Mjolk, Zambesi etc) which represent many differing aesthetics, male and female. of course each individual is entitled to their own opinion based on their own personal taste: i am merely exercising my right to comment on this label as showcased herein, and putting my thoughts out there as part of the overall conversation. as for these bong-mist induced theories of designers defending/promoting their companies on fashion forums, i should expect that most would have businesses to run rather than engaging with faceless nameless online users.
i’m glad that you are so confident in your original comment that you felt the need to back it up 45minutes later under a different alias (skin), again displaying trademark grammatical errors (‘your’). we wouldn’t expect anything less from the commonest of men..
I know the designers of Kornerd, Ksubi and CON personally and its no surprise that parallels are drawn between these labels, they all come from the northern beaches and grew up knowing each other, taking influence from the same surroundings and hanging with the same people in the same circles. All these brands moved into darker, sci-fi vibed stuff a few years back and all 3 are emerging from that trend now.. Despite their personal differences and the fashion scene’s bitching, on closer inspection I think you will find all these designers stand pretty much alone with various points of difference from one another..
Personally I think the way Kornerd got dragged through the mud is pretty fucked but I guess thats the way certain people operate.
Sophisticated language yet hardly the knowledge of clothing by the seems of it zyzz. Firstly I’m a friend of Lars Stoten’s from Mjolk Homme. They are Brooklyn based. Originally from Australia though moved due to a poor market here. Smart move. Silent is the second line from Damir Doma. Just like your DRKSHDW from mainline RO. Damir Doma is originally from Croatia, now based in Paris. Silent is mainly manufactured within Portugal.
What pearls of wisdom you cast before us, Merz! By which dark arts or other-worldly powers of perception could you have unlocked such arcane secrets of the fashion world, like the provenance of a handful of highly sought-after labels? Everyone take note: “silent is the second line of damir doma. and drkshdw is the diffusion line of rick owens”. ah! it’s all starting to make sense!
Please, save your grandstanding for when you actually have something pertinent to add, not rudimentary tidbits of connaissance générale that any follower of a brand would know or could easily find out with the click of a mouse. And for your information, Lars’ new Mjolk HQ is based in Manhattan (86 Forsyth St), not Brooklyn. But of course you’d know that, being a fashion insider and all.

Don’t know about that John, loving this.

If Ksubi & CON had a sleazy one night stand 8 months later this would be the end product.
That model has good potential.
