We had a chat to Melbourne based Lui Hon about his upcoming runway debut collection at L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival, Independent show on Friday 20th March ’09. Among the fact he’s very excited to be showing his collection he took some time to explain the concept of ‘Little Hero’, A/W 09 and his brand Lui Hon for VON.

‘Little Hero’ is named for the hero within each of us, a silent and ever-present witness to our lives. It is the hero called forth to aid us in times of need, for courage to take action and strength to follow through.

Soft merino is contrasted with fabrics of varying heaviness, at different scales. Knits intimately draped on the body evoke romanticism and softness. A merino trench coat is matched with jodhpurs-influenced trousers. Merino brushed wool sleeves complete a structured leather jacket. Merino yarn ‘seam over top’ details appear diagonally across chucky knits. Hard textures evoke strong, hit-the-ground-running activity: structured leather for cowl collared scarves and sleeve gloves, heeled with Blundstone boots.

Contrasts in form involve symmetry/asymmetry and structure/drape, resolved simultaneously in construction. Little Hero qualities of hidden strength are symbolised as contrasting elements, from form to detail.

Lui Hon gives much credit to Christopher Tovo – The photographer of this collection below.

Here are F-T, we offer much support for Lui Hon and his endevours in fashion and hope to study these pieces closely in March.
